Job summary

Qualifications

  • 60 months combined work experience in development and standards.
  • 12 months work experience in the primary technology: .NET.
  • OPTION 1: 60 months combined experience; 12 months .NET.
  • OPTION 2: Associate core program; 42 months combined; 12 months .NET.
  • OPTION 3: Undergraduate core program; 36 months combined; 12 months .NET.
  • OPTION 4: Equivalent of minimum class qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Refactor legacy .NET Framework components to modern standards such as .NET 6/7, microservices, and Azure platforms.
  • Ensure enterprise security, identity management, logging, monitoring, and accessibility.
  • Support migration to containerized, API‑driven, cloud‑ready deployment models including Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and Kubernetes.
  • Prepare system architecture documentation and Technical Design Specifications.
  • Develop proof‑of‑concept prototypes to validate cloud deployment patterns.
  • Decompose monolithic components and stabilize legacy modules before migration.
  • Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability during modernization.
  • Redesign service layers and implement secure RESTful APIs using ASP.NET Core.
  • Participate in QA, performance testing, defect remediation, and risk mitigation.
  • Support CI/CD workflows and DevOps practices via Azure DevOps or equivalent.
  • Mentor staff and strengthen internal technical capacity.
  • Mitigate long‑term operational and compliance risks.

What You Will Do

As a Senior .NET Software Developer, you will be a key technical contributor in modernizing ODJFS applications that support sensitive workflows, legally mandated timelines, and essential program operations across the state. Your work directly strengthens system reliability, compliance, and secure service delivery as the agency transitions to cloud‑ready, scalable solutions aligned with State of Ohio Enterprise Architecture standards.

Expect to work with modern frameworks, API‑driven design, containerization strategies, cloud deployment patterns, and DevOps pipelines. You’ll also navigate legacy integrations, custom dependencies, and large codebases that require careful decomposition, performance tuning, and technical debt remediation ahead of migration. This position blends hands‑on engineering with architectural alignment, risk mitigation, and PMO‑driven documentation and deliverable support.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Refactor legacy .NET Framework components to align with modern architectural standards such as .NET 6/7, microservices, and OIT‑approved platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, identity management, logging, monitoring, and accessibility requirements.
  • Support migration to containerized, API‑driven, cloud‑ready deployment models including Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and Kubernetes.
  • Prepare and contribute to system architecture documentation, Technical Design Specifications, and modernization work packages.
  • Develop proof‑of‑concept prototypes to validate cloud deployment patterns and modernization approaches.
  • Decompose monolithic components, resolve technical debt, and stabilize legacy modules ahead of migration.
  • Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and continuity of operations during modernization activities.
  • Redesign service layers and implement secure, optimized RESTful APIs using ASP.NET Core to support modern, responsive front‑end frameworks.
  • Participate in quality assurance, performance testing, defect remediation, and technical risk mitigation.
  • Support automated deployment pipelines, CI/CD workflows, and DevOps practices through Azure DevOps or equivalent tools.
  • Assist state staff and developers through mentoring, establishing modern coding standards, and strengthening internal technical capacity.
  • Help reduce long‑term operational and compliance risks by ensuring data integrity, security, and reliable support of legally mandated workflows.

Schedule: Full-time

Hours: Standard workdays are Monday through Friday. Hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Location: This position will be headquartered in an ODJFS Facility in one of the following cities - Columbus, Akron, or Dayton. This determination will take into account the proximity to the applicant's home address.

Pay Information

This position is in the State of Ohio’s OCSEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 35. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $41.81 per hour). These ranges provide a standardized pathway for pay increases. With continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Cost of Living Adjustments increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. The current step progression wages are in the table below.
