Job summary

Dept of State Health Services in Austin, TX, seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist III to perform highly complex immunofluorometric tests for neonatal screening and related analyses. Work hours include Saturdays and holidays on a rotating schedule; extensive calibration, QC, and documentation are required.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemical/physical/biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
• Experience: preferred but not required in newborn screening or high-volume work.
• Color vision and immunofluorometric testing knowledge are essential.
• Ability to interpret complex data and maintain QC documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform highly complex immunofluorometric IRT, 17-OHP, T4, TSH, and GALT analyses on high-volume specimens.
• Prepare specimens, run tests, record results, and release final reports per SOP.
• Maintain equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot issues.
• Participate in quality control, proficiency testing, and safety programs.
• Train staff and coordinate with supervisors on workload and priorities.
