Job summary

Panthalassa in Portland, Oregon, is seeking an experienced Senior Naval Architect to advance a core ocean technology, the Node, designed for long-term, low-maintenance operation in challenging offshore environments.

You will drive stability, seakeeping, and structural analyses, develop fabrication drawings, and guide multidisciplinary teams to optimize performance and reliability at sea.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or similar field.
• 5+ years of professional experience performing stability, seakeeping, and weights/balances analyses in a Naval Architecture role.
• Professional experience using GHS or equivalent vessel stability software (e.g. Maxsurf, Orca3D).
• Professional experience using a parametric CAD package (e.g. NX, SolidWorks) to model parts, assemblies, and generate fabrication drawings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide guidance and technical material to engineers, designers, technicians, and suppliers, adeptly receiving and incorporating their guidance and technical information into your approach.
• Confidence working independently to drive a project forward.

Responsibilities

• Perform stability, seakeeping, and weights/balances analyses.
• Develop and release Node structure drawings and drive releases for fabrication.
• Design mechanical, structural, and support subsystems.
• Determine Node program requirements for stability, seakeeping, mooring, structures, and marine operations.
• Drive hydrodynamic loads investigations with multidisciplinary teams.
• Contribute to Orcaflex analyses and hydrodynamic studies.
• Lead corrosion mitigation and biofouling prevention strategies.
• Collaborate with Marine Operations to ensure safe deployment and recovery at sea.
• Serve as naval architecture focal for regulators, insurers, and surveyors.
• Lead and participate in design reviews with internal teams and external vendors.
