Job summary

The University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Development Technician for the Nanofabrication Laboratory (NanoLab) to support semiconductor processing and nanotechnology equipment across the College of Engineering.

You will install, repair, and maintain instruments, document status, and assist in safe operations, with training provided. A high school diploma and five years of technical experience are required, CAD and workshop skills are a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED plus five years of technical and craft experience.
  • Ability to MIG & TIG Weld.
  • Ability to operate machine shop equipment (milling machines, lathes, saws, hand tools).
  • Ability to design and make working drawings using CAD software.
  • Ability to operate woodworking equipment (table saws, Miter Saws, Router).
  • Ability to work from drawings, blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Design, documentation, drawing and layout skills.
  • Knowledge of MSDS corrosive/toxic chemicals and gases.

Responsibilities

  • 50% Equipment and Facilities Support: install, repair and maintain equipment; respond to problem reports; update status and document systems.
  • 30% Design and Fabrication: prepare drawings and fabricate components following specifications.
  • 10% Documentation: manage equipment status, manuals and startup/shutdown procedures; track job status.
  • 10% Safety and Training: follow safety SOPs, protect environment, provide guidance and training.
