University of California, Berkeley's NanoLab Machine Shop seeks a Development Technician to support semiconductor processing and nanotechnology equipment. You will monitor utilities, assist in fabrication, and document procedures in a fast-paced lab environment.

The role emphasizes CAD design, CNC fabrication, and hands-on machine shop work with strict safety standards; you will mentor others and help maintain equipment and processes critical to research.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED and seven years of technical and craft experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to MIG & TIG Weld.
  • Ability to operate machine shop equipment (milling machines, lathes, saws, hand tools).
  • Ability to operate wood working equipment (Table Saws, Miter Saws, Router).
  • Ability to design and make working drawings using CAD software.
  • Ability to work from drawings, blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions.
  • MSDS corrosive/toxic chemicals and gases knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Design, documentation, drawing, and layout skills.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment and Facilities Support: Install, facilitate, and modify environment for semiconductor processing and nanotechnology equipment; respond to problem reports and document systems.
  • Design and Fabrication: Use CAD tools and hand drawings to create working drawings; fabricate devices using CNC and manual machines; select materials based on application.
  • Documentation: Use Mercury database to track equipment status; write and revise manuals and procedures; maintain records in the Job Management System.
  • Safety & Training: Follow SOPs, promote safe lab practices, and provide training to staff and researchers.
