Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Development Technician for the NanoLab Machine Shop. The role focuses on installing, repairing, and maintaining semiconductor processing equipment and supporting faculty labs across the College of Engineering.

Responsibilities include equipment troubleshooting, design/fabrication of parts, and maintaining thorough documentation; emphasis on safety, training, and following SOPs.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED and five years of technical and craft experience.
  • Ability to MIG & TIG weld.
  • Ability to operate machine shop equipment such as milling machines, lathes, saws and hand tools.
  • Ability to design and make working drawings using CAD software.
  • Ability to operate wood working equipment such as table saws and routers.
  • Ability to read drawings, blueprints, sketches and follow verbal instructions.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Design, documentation, drawing and layout skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MSDS corrosive/toxic chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment and Facilities Support: install, repair and maintain equipment for semiconductor processing and nanotechnology.
  • Respond quickly to equipment problems and document status using NanoLab systems.
  • Design and fabricate components following existing specs.
  • Documentation: use Mercury database, write manuals and maintain records.
  • Safety: follow SOPs for safety and environmental protection; train staff.
  • Assist in training engineers, staff and researchers.
