Job summary

Roc Nation, LLC seeks a Senior Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs (Music) in New York City to support label, distribution, publishing and artist management operations. You will draft, negotiate, and structure deals while managing legal risk in a commercially minded way.

You will collaborate with A&R, creative, marketing, and finance teams, providing day-to-day guidance and maintaining templates and processes. In-house experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
• Member of the New York Bar in good standing preferred or willingness/qualified to be registered.
• In-House Counsel required.
• 3+ years of progressive legal experience in the music industry with exposure across recorded music, publishing, and talent/artist management.
• Prior experience at a major or independent label, distributor, music publisher, or entertainment-focused law firm preferred.
• Working knowledge of U.S. copyright law as it pertains to musical compositions and sound recordings, AFM/SAG-AFTRA where applicable.
• Comfort in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with shifting priorities and multiple projects.
• Experience with NFT contractual issues; metaverse experience a plus.
• Applicants in the U.S. must have work authorization not requiring employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate music industry agreements across label, distribution, publishing, and management.
• Provide supervised legal counsel on deal structuring, contract interpretation, rights issues, and day-to-day questions.
• Conduct copyright ownership and chain-of-title research and advise on risks and approvals.
• Support royalty inquiries with finance and royalty teams and assist with audits.
• Maintain and improve template agreements, form libraries, and internal legal processes.
• Monitor developments in copyright law and AI/content regulation and flag issues to leadership.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with A&R, creative, marketing, digital operations, and finance.
• Other duties as assigned.
