Job summary

The City of Boston is seeking a dynamic ACC III to represent the City in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, interpreting and administering such agreements, and litigating arising matters. The role requires independent work within a complex, diverse environment.

Key duties include representing the City in labor law litigation, providing in-house counsel on labor and employment issues, managing caseloads, and conducting investigations as needed.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree required and Massachusetts bar admission with no disciplinary record.
• Minimum five years’ experience, preferably in government or labor relations.
• Ability to read and interpret decisions, briefs, opinions, and contracts.
• Knowledge of labor and employment law and related theory/principles.
• Strong writing and organizational skills; excellent oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Represent City in all aspects of labor law litigation, including arbitrations and regulatory bodies.
• Provide in-house counsel on labor and employment matters (HR issues, wage/hour, benefits, policy).
• Manage a caseload representing the City; handle litigation in state and federal courts.
• Conduct legal research and issue opinions on risks and opportunities in labor/ employment area.
• Conduct investigations with HR as needed; draft ordinances and advise on municipal law.
• Mentor attorneys in litigation, contract review/negotiation, and departmental advising.
