Job summary

The City of Boston seeks a Senior Assistant Corporation Counsel III to represent the City, its officials, and its departments in civil actions, arbitrations, administrative hearings, mediations, and negotiations.

The Senior ACC III will advise City leaders on a variety of municipal law matters; represent the City in civil actions, arbitrations, administrative hearings, mediations, and negotiations; investigate claims and complaints by or against the City and recommend actions to be taken; draft

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor required.
• Five to six years of legal experience in a law firm or government.
• Licensed to practice in Massachusetts with no disciplinary record.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong writing, organization, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Westlaw, and Social Law Library.

Responsibilities

• Mentor ACC I/II attorneys in litigation, contract review, and advisory work.
• Manage a caseload and represent the City in state and federal venues.
• Provide representation for personal injury, civil rights, contracts, and education matters.
• Advise on policy matters, procurement, open meetings, public records, and confidentiality laws.
• Perform legal research, write opinions, and review contracts and ordinances.
• Handle specialized municipal law tasks including workers’ compensation and tax foreclosures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
