Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of multi-specialty coding experience, preferably within a rural healthcare setting.
• Extensive knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Thorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines and regulations.
• Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of coding updates.

Responsibilities

• Assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for professional and facility services across multiple medical specialties.
• Review medical documentation to extract information for accurate coding.
• Abstract pertinent information from patient records for data entry and reporting.
• Clarify ambiguous documentation with physicians to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Stay current with coding guidelines and industry changes through education and development.
• Participate in regular coding audits and provide feedback for improvements.
• Collaborate with billing and revenue cycle teams to resolve denials and rejections.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Assist in training and mentoring less experienced coders.
