Job summary

The State of South Carolina, Department of Corrections, seeks a chaplain to provide spiritual care in Columbia. The role includes weekly worship services with sacraments, crisis intervention, religious education, and pastoral counseling for inmates within the system.

Applicants must hold an MDiv, be ordained, and have completed Clinical Pastoral Education; must also satisfy SCDC training requirements and participate in volunteer coordination and visitation duties.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity from an accredited theological school.
• Ordination as priest, minister, or Rabbi with current ecclesiastical endorsement.
• One year of pastoral experience; four CPE units under ACPE supervision.
• Must complete four weeks SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides weekly worship services and the sacraments.
• Assists in providing crisis intervention services for inmates including deaths and critical illness of family members.
• Conducts religious education classes and social skills groups as needed/requested.
• Provides individual and group pastoral counseling.
• Provides daily visitation to inmates.
• Recruits and trains institutional volunteers.
