Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to serve as a technical lead in the MRD program, collaborating with senior scientists and leaders on complex R&D projects. You will independently determine methods, plan analyses, and drive end-to-end data science workflows across data collection, curation, modeling, and validation.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, or related field; or Master’s with 4+ years of experience; or Bachelor’s with 6+ years of experience.
• 5+ years of industry or academia experience in bioinformatics.
• 3+ years of experience in medical device/IVD, biotech, life science or pharmaceutical industry.
• Extensive experience in Linux-based HPC or cloud computing environments and related tools.
• Ability to write code in at least three programming or scripting languages.
• Expert in molecular biology/biochemistry and/or next-generation sequencing and genomics.
• Knowledge of product/assay research, design, or development.
• Working knowledge of statistics and mathematical methods in biology/genetics.

Responsibilities

• Lead or participate in project and analysis planning across R&D programs.
• Independently analyze experimental data, interpret results, and recommend next steps.
• Develop methods, procedures, and development plans for new studies.
• Manage bench-generated data and bioinformatics outputs in HPC or cloud environments.
• Present findings at meetings and communicate with stakeholders and management.
• Mentor research associates and junior scientists, managing multiple projects.
