Job summary

Abbott is recruiting a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist in United States - California, La Jolla, to lead MRD-related projects and applications in data science for diagnostic assay development.

You will develop novel genomic and epigenetic biomarkers, build and validate models, and drive end-to-end analyses from data collection to insights. Candidates should have 5+ years in bioinformatics and strong coding skills.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, or related field; or Master’s with 4+ years of experience.
• 5+ years of industry or academia experience in bioinformatics.
• 3+ years in medical device/IVD, biotech, life science or pharmaceutical industry.
• Extensive experience in Linux-based HPC or cloud computing environments and tools.
• Ability to write custom code in at least three programming or scripting languages.
• Technical expert in molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or NGS/genomics.
• Knowledge of product/assay research, design, or development.
• Working knowledge of statistical and mathematical methods in biology/genetics.

Responsibilities

• Lead or participate in MRD project planning and analyses.
• Independently analyze complex experimental data and interpret results.
• Develop methods, study designs, and development plans for new studies.
• Manage bench-generated data and bioinformatics outputs in HPC or cloud settings.
• Present findings to stakeholders and document procedures and reports.
• Mentor researchers and manage multiple projects with shifting priorities.
• Travel up to 5% of time as needed.
