Job summary

General Motors (GM) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Secondary Driving System (SDS) within the Embodied AI team. You will design and build production-grade C++ software spanning ML-based perception, planning, and controls to enable robust, fail-operational SDS behaviors for GM’s driver assistance and automated driving features.

You will collaborate with experts across perception, state estimation, vehicle dynamics, safety, and systems engineering to ship reliable SDS capabilities

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex real-time/control systems.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++14/17+); Python for tooling, prototyping, data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize production-grade C++ software across the SDS stack, integrating ML-based perception with planning and controls.
• Design and implement planning and controls algorithms for SDS, including lane-keeping, obstacle avoidance, lane changes to shoulder, and stopping for MRM.
• Collaborate with state estimation, mapping, localization, and autonomy management to define reliable SDS interfaces.
