Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the Motion Planning team within Embodied AI. You will build production-grade C++ software across the Secondary Driving System stack, interfacing ML perception with planning and controls to enable safe, fail-operational behavior.

You will design planning algorithms, coordinate with perception, localization, and safety teams, and own features end-to-end from requirements to on-road validation, applying best practices and mentoring peers.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in robotics or real-time systems.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++14/17 or later) with large codebases; Python for tooling.

Responsibilities

• Develop production-grade C++ software across the SDS stack, integrating ML-based perception with planning and controls.
• Design and implement planning and controls algorithms (lane-keeping, obstacle avoidance, lane changes to shoulder, controlled stopping for MRM).
• Collaborate with state estimation, mapping, localization, and autonomy management teams to define interfaces.
• Own features end-to-end: requirements, design reviews, implementation, simulation/HI L bring-up, on-road testing, iteration.
• Apply software engineering best practices: clean interfaces, code reviews, automated testing, CI, profiling, observability.
• Analyze and debug complex integration issues using logs and telemetry.
• Partner with Safety and Systems Engineering for functional safety and MRM requirements.
• Mentor and unblock other engineers to raise robustness and execution speed.
