Job summary

Minnco Credit Union is seeking a Sr. Mortgage Underwriter in Minnesota. The role focuses on accurate and timely underwriting in line with Minnco policies, federal/state regulations, and secondary market guidelines. You will ensure credit quality and manage FNMA DU activity.

The position is hybrid, with expectations for thorough file reviews, collaboration with originators, and adherence to deadlines. Strong communication and knowledge of mortgage products are essential.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of mortgage underwriting experience including automated underwriting and secondary market guidelines and private mortgage insurers.
• Experience with Fannie Mae guidelines, programs, underwriting standards, and loan delivery requirements.
• Comprehensive knowledge of mortgage lending practices, including federal and state regulatory requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Approve or reject mortgage loan applications or request additional information in a consistent and timely manner.
• Review mortgage loans to ensure accuracy and completeness, validate findings to verify that all information matches.
• Review title to verify ownership and investor requirements; ensure liens are paid off through the transaction.
• Verify that rate lock matches the underwriting file with the correct program, LTV, credit score.
• Perform mortgage credit analysis to determine borrower’s willingness and ability to repay.
• Evaluate risk to ensure prudent decisions.
• Review appraisals for 1–4 family properties to determine collateral acceptability.
• Partner with the Mortgage Underwriting Manager to meet timeframes and deadlines.
• Ensure loans are closed properly according to investors and guidelines.
• Monitor compliance policies and address post-closing issues with investors and auditors.
