Job summary

Centessa Pharmaceuticals is seeking an Associate Director of Molecular Pharmacology to lead in vitro and ex vivo pharmacology studies, with emphasis on brain slice electrophysiology and circuit-level assays conducted via CROs.

The role requires a PhD with 8+ years in neuroscience/pharmacology, strong data interpretation skills, and a collaborative, matrixed work style in a remote US setting.

Qualifications

• PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Physiology with 8+ years postdoc or industry experience.
• Experience with in vitro functional and affinity modulation of GPCR targets in drug discovery.
• Expertise in brain slice electrophysiology and circuit-level approaches.
• Experience working with CROs and external research partners.
• Ability to connect mechanistic data to in vivo relevance and program decisions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Molecular Pharmacology team's subject-matter expert in neuroscience pharmacology, guiding in vitro and ex vivo assay selection and translational interpretation of results.
• Own the scientific strategy and design of in vitro and ex vivo pharmacology studies, focusing on brain slice electrophysiology.
• Manage external CROs, including protocol development, alignment, data review, and troubleshooting for high-quality studies.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to interpret results and inform program decisions.
• Contribute to scientific discussions to refine hypotheses and deepen biological understanding.
• Provide guidance and review to junior team members (no people management).
