Job summary

Intuitive is seeking a Principal Modeling Engineer to own thermal management of the 3D surgical viewer and related subsystems. You will build FEA models for electro-optical assemblies, develop thermal budgets for displays and PCBs, and support test plans and design verification.

You will collaborate with design, manufacturing, and suppliers to deliver robust, safe robotic-assisted surgery systems and contribute to next-generation RAS technology.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Physics with 5+ years of experience; 10+ years preferred.
• Deep expertise in finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as Ansys or equivalent.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and creating 2D drawings and specs.
• Knowledge in GD&T for thermally and structurally driven designs.
• Ability to work with manufacturing and suppliers for cost-effective, manufacturable designs.
• Experience with thermal management components and material selection.

Responsibilities

• Lead thermal management for the 3D surgical viewer and sub-systems.
• Develop finite-element models for electro-optical designs and structural subsystems.
• Create thermal budgets for displays and PCBs; verify with tests and V&V.
• Communicate model results and trade-offs to design engineers for HW/SW solutions.
• Troubleshoot failures and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
