Job summary

Intuitive is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to sustain and improve product performance, reliability and capacity. You will tackle complex design issues, support manufacturing, and lead cross-functional teams in the development of advanced energy instruments.

The role requires deep mechanical design expertise, knowledge of high-volume manufacturing, and strong communication. Travel may be required as projects evolve.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8+ years with a Master's or 5+ years with a PhD.
• Strong mechanical design and analytical skills.
• Experience with high-volume manufacturing (injection molding, MIM, stamping, extrusion, machining).
• Knowledge of metals and plastics materials and properties.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and GD&T for medium to high-volume manufacturing.
• Ability to apply reliability-focused design and manufacturability principles.
• Effective written and verbal communication across all levels.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate in cross-functional teams to understand product performance and supply chain needs.
• Identify, develop, test and document solutions meeting customer requirements and design controls.
• Analyze instruments/components, conduct DOEs, collect data and report results.
• Support manufacturing and suppliers by reviewing processes and fixtures.
• Lead root-cause investigations of design or manufacturing defects.
• Develop verification testing and contribute to new Advanced Energy instruments.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead small teams.
• Travel as needed to support projects.
