Job summary

AWS Startups is seeking a Scientist to own ML capabilities powering proactive recommendations for founders. You will lead data strategy, model design, evaluation, and production deployment that touches hundreds of thousands of startups worldwide.

You will apply generative AI and LLMs to personalize guidance, optimize retrieval and ranking, and balance accuracy with latency and cost in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. mentorship and community contributions are encouraged.

Qualifications

• 3 years of building ML models for business applications.
• PhD or Master’s degree with 6+ years of applied research experience.
• Experience programming in Java, C, Python or related language.
• Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.

Responsibilities

• Own the science for problem areas end-to-end: frame the problem, define the data strategy, build and evaluate ML models for recommendation systems, startup segmentation, and fraud detection, and deploy them into production.
• Apply generative AI and large language models to personalize the technical guidance founders receive, including retrieval, ranking, and evaluation of LLM-powered experiences.
• Design and run experiments that keep model quality quantified and defensible, balancing accuracy, latency and cost with production reliability.
• Partner with product, engineering, design, and go-to-market teams to translate science into scalable products and communicate results clearly to both technical and non-technical leaders.
• Raise the scientific bar through design and code reviews, mentor other scientists and engineers, and contribute to the broader scientific community through publications or peer reviews.
