Job summary

SandboxAQ is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer for the AQCell platform to develop models predicting transcriptomic responses and functional endpoints from perturbations. You will work on large heterogeneous datasets and help scale models for drug discovery decisions.

The role blends ML research with biology, requiring strong Python, PyTorch/JAX, and data-management skills. Collaborative, rigorous, and impactful work awaits in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific or quantitative field; MS/PhD preferred.
• Experience building ML models in a scientific/industrial setting, life sciences preferred.
• Experience managing large-scale datasets and training models at scale.
• Strong Python programming and ML framework experience (PyTorch/JAX); experiment tracking.
• Ability to design robust evaluation methodology and interpret results against baselines.

Responsibilities

• Model Development: Build, train, and maintain ML models for expression-perturbation prediction and downstream function endpoints.
• Large-Scale Dataset Management: Acquire, harmonize, and manage large biological datasets; schema harmonization and de-duplication.
• Evaluation & Baselines: Automate and harden end-to-end evaluation; implement robust baselines.
• Research Translation: Translate literature ideas into well-tested code in modeling framework.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with biologists, software engineers, and product stakeholders.
• Communication: Document methods, assumptions, and results for technical and non-technical audiences.
