Job summary

Rocket Lab Optical Systems in Chantilly, VA seeks a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to design and deploy deep learning solutions for EO/IR image processing. You will build ML pipelines, prototype new methods, and collaborate across teams to deliver production-ready capabilities for space domain applications.

Requirements include a strong ML background, Python proficiency, and experience with Keras/TensorFlow/PyTorch, plus the ability to obtain an US security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of experience in CS or engineering.
• Experience building deep learning neural networks for computer vision.
• Strong math background, especially linear algebra.
• Proficiency in Python and DL libraries (Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Software engineering fundamentals: version control, testing, CI/CD, containerization.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to developing ML solutions for real-world problems.
• Design, train, and deploy ML models for Optical Systems.
• Build and maintain ML pipelines for data ingestion, feature engineering, training, and inference.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers on AI, ML, and CV.
• Prototype rapidly and integrate improvements into production systems.
• Troubleshoot, fix bugs, and maintain systems; stay current with ML research.
