Rocket Lab Optical Systems in Chantilly, VA seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer II to build deep learning models for EO/IR image processing and to develop end-to-end ML pipelines. You will collaborate with researchers and engineers to prototype solutions for mission-critical space domain challenges.

The role emphasizes Python, DL libraries, and strong software fundamentals, with eligibility for U.S. citizenship and security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in CS/EE/related field.
• Strong background in ML including model selection, training, validation, testing and deployment.
• Experience building deep learning models for computer vision and image processing (object detection, segmentation, tracking).
• Proficiency in Python and popular DL libraries (TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch).
• Software fundamentals: version control, testing, CI/CD, containerization.
• U.S. citizenship required due to program requirements and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop ML solutions for real-world space-domain problems.
• Design, train, and deploy ML models for Optical Systems applications.
• Build and maintain ML pipelines for data ingestion, feature engineering, training and inference.
• Collaborate with researchers/engineers on AI, ML, and CV topics.
• Prototype rapidly for integration into operational systems.
• Troubleshoot, fix and maintain existing and new systems.
• Stay current with ML research and evaluate new tools and approaches.
