Job summary

Wayve, based in Sunnyvale, CA, is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for the Search & Indexing team to make our multimodal data corpus searchable. You will scale and evolve the indexing stack, enabling rapid retrieval across thousands of hours of driving data, with emphasis on MVP delivery and build-versus-buy decisions.

You will partner with ML, platform, and data teams, own critical components end-to-end, and mentor peers as the team grows.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building production backend or ML systems.
• Experience with vector databases or ANN technologies (FAISS, LanceDB).
• Strong Python or systems languages.
• Experience delivering 0→1 systems in ambiguous spaces.
• Ability to work across infra, ML, and data curation.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate production search and indexing at billion-vector scale.
• Evaluate embeddings for semantic retrieval and filtering.
• Develop backend services and APIs for vector similarity.
• Own search components from design to production deployment.
• Collaborate with ML, Data, and Evaluation teams to integrate search into workflows.
• Mentor and share knowledge with other engineers.
