Job summary

Uber Technologies Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to shape the long-term ML strategy for Consumer Incentives.

You will lead cross-functional teams, translate ML advances into reliable products, and drive scalable, data-driven decision making that aligns incentives with business growth. You will build on deep learning, optimization, and experimentation to deliver measurable outcomes, mentor engineers, and define roadmaps spanning data pipelines to production systems.

Qualifications

• Masters degree or Ph.D in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics.
• 12+ years of ML experience, including significant work on large-scale deep learning systems.
• Demonstrated ownership of high-impact ML systems such as search, recommendations, personalization, targeting.
• Proven ability to set the technical strategy for a large organization and influence product roadmaps at the executive level.
• Strong product intuition and ability to connect model improvements to business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction: Define the long-term ML vision, architecture, and roadmap for Consumer Incentives, aligning investments with needs and priorities.
• Lead strategically important initiatives: Turn ambiguous problems into actionable strategies and drive execution across teams from problem formulation to production deployment.
• Advance personalization and optimization: Design models and algorithms that improve incentive relevance and estimate incremental impact.
• Architect scalable ML systems: Guide end-to-end ML system design, including data pipelines, training, inference, and monitoring.
• Connect scientific rigor to business outcomes: Establish evaluation and experimental design with causal measurement.
• Translate emerging techniques into practical advances: Evaluate reinforcement learning, foundation models, and generative AI for product improvements.
• Build alignment across functions: Partner with product, data science, operations, and engineering leaders to prioritize opportunities.
• Multiply the impact of others: Mentor engineers and raise the quality of technical decision-making.
