Job summary

Steampunk is seeking a seasoned Senior Machine Learning Engineer to bridge data science with production AI systems. The role covers the full ML lifecycle, including EDA, feature engineering, model experimentation, and deployment of scalable AI/ML and generative AI solutions.

The position emphasizes strong software engineering, customer-facing communication, and collaboration with product managers and data architects to deliver mission-ready capabilities. Hybrid work is available.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, ML, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years total experience with 3-5 years building ML/AI solutions, including generative AI/LLM development.
• Experience with structured and unstructured data modeling and data solution development.
• Strong programming in Python and modern AI frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras).
• Experience with RAG architectures, embeddings, vector stores, and context retrieval.

Responsibilities

• Develop end-to-end ML/AI solutions including predictive models and LLM-powered applications.
• Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and data visualization to inform model design.
• Apply deep learning methodologies using state-of-the-art libraries and frameworks.
• Integrate AI/ML models with enterprise systems, APIs, and data platforms.
• Design and implement prompt strategies, context management, and LLM orchestration.
