People In AI is seeking an engineer to help build an internal AI engineering function in New York City with a hybrid work model. You will work directly with AI leadership to develop production AI systems that deliver measurable value across diverse businesses and internal operations.

This role combines software engineering, machine learning, LLMs, retrieval systems, and lightweight product development, giving you ownership from concept through production.

Qualifications

• Strong software fundamentals with production Python experience.
• Hands-on experience building AI applications using LLMs, NLP, embeddings, or retrieval systems.
• Experience with ML tooling such as PyTorch or Hugging Face.

Responsibilities

• Build production AI applications using LLMs, embeddings, retrieval systems, and modern NLP techniques.
• Design intelligent workflows that automate complex business processes.
• Prototype full-stack AI products, including backend services and lightweight user interfaces.
• Develop evaluation frameworks, prompt strategies, and experimentation pipelines.
• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate open-ended challenges into production AI solutions.
• Own projects from ideation through deployment and continuous improvement.
