Job summary

Unity is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the development of agentic AI within the Unity engine. You will enable goal-directed behavior, planning, and environment-aware decision-making for in-game agents and simulations, partnering with teams across engineering and product.

The role focuses on hierarchical reinforcement learning, memory and planning modules, and seamless integration with real-time constraints.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing ML systems in production, ideally within real-time or interactive environments.
• Strong background in reinforcement learning, AI planning, or multi-agent systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and scale AI agent systems in Unity environments for goal-directed behavior and environment-aware decision-making.
• Develop reusable agentic frameworks such as planning modules and memory systems for extensibility.
• Develop AI models for Unity agentic system and optimize for real-time engine constraints.
• Lead hierarchical reinforcement learning and planning initiatives for NPCs and simulations.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams to enable innovative use cases in gaming and simulations.
• Contribute to Unity’s long-term agentic AI roadmap with modular, high-performance solutions.
• Establish best practices for model quality, evaluation, and ML/AI safety in real-time systems.
• Mentor engineers and researchers to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.
