Job summary

Our client in the South African mining industry is seeking a Mine Ventilation Engineer to design, implement and monitor underground ventilation systems for safety and productivity. The role combines on-site assessment with off-site analysis and design work, focusing on airflow, cooling, and dust control in deep-level operations.

The successful candidate will have a mining engineering degree with a ventilation specialization, 7+ years of experience, and proficiency with ventilation simulation

Qualifications

• Bachelor level degree in Mining Engineering with a specialization in Ventilation.
• 7+ years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably in deep-level underground mining.
• Experience designing and managing large-scale ventilation systems.
• Proficiency in ventilation simulation software and CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, psychrometrics and fluid dynamics in mining contexts.
• Knowledge of dust and gas monitoring equipment and techniques.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and maintain mine ventilation systems to ensure adequate airflow and environmental conditions.
• Conduct surveys of underground conditions (temperature, humidity, air velocity, gas concentrations).
• Develop and implement mine cooling strategies for deep-level operations.
• Manage dust suppression and control measures to minimize health risks.
• Ensure compliance with ventilation-related health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Prepare detailed ventilation reports, plans, and schematics.
• Collaborate with mine planning, production, and safety to integrate ventilation requirements into mining plans.
• Monitor and optimize ventilation fans, ducting, and auxiliary equipment.
• Conduct heat stress assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical guidance and training to operational staff on ventilation best practices.
