Job summary

NewRange is seeking a Mining Study Principal to act as technical lead for Sunrise mining, geotechnical and tailings scope through concept, pre-feasibility and subsequent study phases. The role shapes the mine plan, pits, schedules and accounts for dam safety governance, with external consultants and a project team delivering the scope.

The incumbent will own technical quality, cost, schedule and risk across this scope, coordinating with the Study Manager and NorthMet services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing.
• Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in mine planning, mine design or mining engineering.
• Experience leading the mining discipline through at least one concept, pre-feasibility or feasibility study to a completed gate decision.
• Experience with pit optimization and mine scheduling software.
• Experience with mine waste and tailings storage facility concept development.
• Experience developing scopes of work for external mining, geotechnical and tailings consultants.
• Experience contributing to Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve disclosure is asset.
• Advanced degree is asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead mining method selection and mine design for Sunrise gates.
• Develop pit optimization, phase designs, production schedules and test against processing throughput.
• Define mining equipment strategy, fleet requirements and productivity.
• Develop mine capital and operating cost inputs with bases of estimate.
• Define mining dilution and ore loss assumptions in the production schedule.
• Lead the mine geotechnical scope including slope design basis and data programs.
• Define and manage geotechnical drilling, logging, instrumentation and lab programs.
• Assess geotechnical risk to the mine plan and mitigate before the next gate.
• Lead development of mine waste strategy and dam safety governance for Sunrise.
• Direct consultant scopes and review deliverables for mining, geotechnical and tailings.
• Maintain Sunrise risk and opportunity register and present findings to leadership.
• Provide mentoring to less experienced engineers.
• Maintain design basis and records for continuity.
