We are seeking an experienced Senior Millwork Estimator to lead the pricing and bidding process for architectural millwork, custom casework, and finish carpentry projects, and to help coordinate bid opportunities across the estimating team. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of woodworking materials, fabrication processes, and installation methods, and can translate architectural drawings and specifications into accurate, competitive estimates. This role is critical to securing profitable work and setting projects up for successful execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather incoming plans, specifications, and bid documents, and distribute opportunities to other estimators based on scope, capacity, and expertise
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to develop detailed, accurate estimates for custom millwork, cabinetry, and finish carpentry scopes
- Perform quantity takeoffs for materials (wood species, veneers, laminates, solid surface, hardware, etc.) using Innergy
- Maintain and manage estimates, quotes, and takeoffs within Innergy, ensuring data accuracy for handoff to production and project management
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Prepare comprehensive, well-organized bid packages and proposals within client deadlines
- Identify scope gaps, conflicts, or ambiguities in drawings and specifications, and issue RFIs as needed
- Analyze value engineering opportunities to improve competitiveness without compromising quality
- Track historical cost data and labor productivity rates to refine future estimates
- Participate in bid review meetings and present estimates to leadership and/or clients
- Collaborate with project managers, production/shop staff, and design teams during hand-off of awarded projects
- Maintain relationships with material and hardware suppliers to stay current on pricing and lead times
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools
Qualifications Required
- 5+ years of experience estimating architectural millwork, custom cabinetry, or finish carpentry (commercial and/or residential)
- Strong knowledge of woodworking materials, joinery methods, hardware, and fabrication processes
- Proficiency reading architectural and shop drawings, and AWI/AWS quality standards
- Proficiency with estimating software required (OST, INNERGY, etc.); Microsoft Excel proficiency also required
- Strong math and analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for working with vendors and clients
- Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously, prioritize incoming opportunities, and meet tight deadlines
Preferred
- Experience with AWI (Architectural Woodwork Institute) standards and certification
- Background in shop/production environment
