Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices and RESTful GraphQL APIs in a Java + Spring Boot environment.

You will deploy and operate services on Azure (AKS, Cosmos DB, SQL Database), strengthen DevOps practices with CI/CD pipelines, and contribute to architecture, observability, and testing strategies while mentoring other engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/Engineering.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Designing and building microservices and RESTful APIs in distributed systems.
• Experience with Azure cloud platforms and containerized deployments.
• Strong DevOps, CI/CD, and automated deployment practices.
• Experience with TDD and testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito).
• Strong SQL experience (Oracle or PostgreSQL).
• Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices, REST APIs, GraphQL APIs, and event-driven integrations using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build secure, reliable backend services for mobile and enterprise workflows.
• Deploy and operate services on Azure using AKS, API Management, Functions, Cosmos DB, SQL Database.
• Strengthen DevOps with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and release governance using Azure DevOps.
• Improve observability with metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards and monitoring tools.
• Define and monitor SLOs/SLAs and operational health indicators.
• Apply AI‑enabled engineering practices to improve productivity and quality.
• Use TDD and robust testing for maintainable software with strong test coverage.
• Partner with product, architecture, security, and dependent teams to deliver aligned solutions.
• Mentor engineers on microservices design, API standards, and DevOps best practices.
• Contribute to architecture docs, runbooks, APIs, and engineering standards across the team.
