Job summary

Genentech's Center for Advanced Light Microscopy and Electron Microscopy (CALM-EM) is seeking a Scientist 3, Microscopy Specialist to provide expert optical microscopy and quantitative image analysis support for drug discovery across gRED. You will design experiments, train users, optimize imaging assays, and develop pipelines using FIJI/ImageJ, Imaris, CellPose, and other tools.

This lab-based role is based at the South San Francisco, CA campus with onsite work required.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a scientific discipline with microscopy as a primary methodology.
• Hands-on microscopy core/shared resource experience (3+ years).
• Experience teaching, mentoring, and onboarding users across imaging platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide high‑level technical consultation and experimental design across advanced imaging modalities.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to design, optimize, and execute tailored imaging assays.
• Lead user onboarding and hands‑on technical training on advanced light microscopy instrumentation.
