Job summary

The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) seeks a Principal Scientist, Microbiology to lead a portfolio of microbiology reference materials and standards.

You will direct studies, method development, validation, and scale-up activities, while shaping the pipeline for new microbiology products and engaging external stakeholders. Ideal candidates have a MS with 10+ years in microbiology or a PhD with 12+ years, strong leadership, and collaboration across cross-functional teams and regulatory

Qualifications

• MS degree in Microbiology or related field with 10+ years of experience.
• PhD preferred with 12+ years in microbiology.
• Experience with product development related to microbial products (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership for USP's microbiology reference materials and reference standards portfolio.
• Lead scientific studies, method development, validation strategies, and product characterization efforts.
• Identify and develop new microbiology reference materials and establish an innovation pipeline.
• Collaborate with documentary standards scientists on technical approaches and decision making.
• Mentor scientists and laboratory staff and lead cross functional product development initiatives.
• Represent USP as a scientific leader through publications and external engagement.

Education

M.S. degree in Microbiology or relevant field
