Job summary

South Shore Health System seeks a Microbiologist with bench experience to independently perform gram stains, identify pathogens, and interpret antimicrobial susceptibility on routine specimens.

You will troubleshoot culture workups, select pure colonies, follow CLSI guidelines, maintain QC and equipment, and report results promptly to clinicians and infection control.

Minimum education: Associate degree in a relevant science; internship preferred; ASCP certification within 1 year from hire.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a relevant science preferred.
• Four (4) months’ clinical laboratory internship preferred.
• ASCP certification within 1 year from date of hire; ASCP or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate microbiology testing on specimens per protocol.
• Interpret Gram stains, colony morphology, and select isolates for ID and susceptibility.
• Adhere to QC, maintenance, and calibration schedules for equipment.
• Communicate results and alerts to clinicians and infection control.
