Job summary

U.S. Fleet Forces Command seeks an interdisciplinary meteorologist/oceanographer to join the EXECUTIVE STAFF in the Fleet Numerical Oceanography Meteorology Center. You will help shape long-range environmental modeling strategy and advise on IT configurations to support major initiatives.

You will lead developments in big data assimilation, numerical modeling, and data processing, coordinating with FNMOC, naval labs, and R&D activities. Will require security clearance and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Expert-level knowledge of meteorology, oceanography, and related numerical modeling.
• Experience evaluating environmental modeling and data assimilation methods.
• Understanding Navy R&D processes and operational needs.
• Knowledge of naval operations and sensor performance impacts.

Responsibilities

• Conceive and direct long-range environmental modeling strategy.
• Advise on IT hardware/software configurations and staffing to support initiatives.
• Lead development of big data assimilation and processing across METOC.
• Coordinate METOC initiatives between FNMOC, R&D, and NRL.
• Serve as liaison with Naval Research Laboratories and updates as required.
• Formulate policy on METOC modeling, data ingest, assimilation, and processing.
