Job summary

U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Monterey, CA seeks a Supervisory Meteorologist to lead METOC operations within the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center.

You will provide expert guidance, manage a team of seven scientists, and drive the transfer of new meteorological technologies to production. The role requires a strong background in meteorology and oceanography, experience with numerical models, and a track record of leadership and cross-agency collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or other natural science.
• Specialized experience at or above GS-12 level or equivalent, including meteorology/oceanography and numerical environmental analysis.
• Experience with METOC satellites, in-situ observations, and data assimilation inputs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior technical advisor in meteorology, physical oceanography, or related fields.
• Provide authoritative briefings to agency scientists and high-level officials.
• Supervise seven professionals in grades GS-13 and below.
• Coordinate transfer of new scientific technologies to operations.
• Validate METOC numerical analysis and forecast products against observations.
• Represent FNMOC in inter-agency groups and international collaborations.
• Oversee data, software, and product transitions across divisions.
