Job summary

NOAA's Weather Forecast Office in Pago Pago seeks a Lead Meteorologist to oversee shift operations, ensuring timely forecast products, watches, and advisories for American Samoa. The role requires meeting OPM meteorology education standards and one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent, with potential relocation support

Qualifications

• Education requirements follow OPM Handbook; transcripts required.
• A. Degree: Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related natural science with prescribed coursework.
• B. Combination of education and experience with specialized experience at GS-13 level requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead shift responsible for quality and timeliness of forecast products, warnings, and advisories.
• Conduct weather watches using Doppler radar, satellite data, and hydrometeorological analyses.
• Serve as primary liaison with FAA, FEMA, and local agencies on weather-related actions.
• Manage general office duties including staffing and overtime/leave approvals.
