Job summary

Hudbay Minerals is seeking a Chief Metallurgist - Concentrate Leaching to provide strategic leadership for fine grinding, oxidative leaching, and hydrometallurgical processing of copper. You will guide test programs, manage engineering teams and EPCM contractors, and drive optimization from studies through commissioning to safe, efficient cathode production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or related field.
• Minimum 15+ years of progressive metallurgical engineering and technical management experience in large-scale mining operations or major project development, with at least 5+ years in senior leadership or managerial roles.
• Minimum 5+ years of direct experience in concentrate leaching, fine grinding, and hydrometallurgical processing plant operations or technology development.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for concentrate leaching, fine grinding, SX/EW, and related processes.
• Direct metallurgical test programs evaluating feedstocks to establish parameters and recovery modeling.
• Mentor and lead a multi-disciplinary team while overseeing EPCM consultants and labs.
• Establish long-term metallurgical strategy, quality control, and governance to meet copper cathode targets.
• Champion safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory standards across designs and operations.
• Lead technical decision-making, value engineering, and risk mitigation across hydrometallurgy.
• Oversee readiness, commissioning, and transition to full-scale operations.
• Govern departmental budgets (OPEX/CAPEX) and resource allocation.
• Provide metallurgical input for tollgates, feasibility studies, and executive planning.
• Lead equipment procurement strategies, bids, and vendor negotiations.
