Job summary

Hudbay Minerals is seeking a Senior Metallurgist - Concentrate Leaching to develop and implement processes for receiving and leaching copper concentrates at the Cactus project. The role leads pilot testing, scale-up, and full-scale commercial implementation to generate high-purity cathode material.

The position requires a strong background in hydrometallurgy, SX/EW, and process optimization, with emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and project readiness at the Arizona site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of metallurgical engineering experience in hydrometallurgy or copper concentrate processing.
• Experience leading metallurgical testwork, pilot plant operations, and facility commissioning/startup.
• Knowledge of hydrometallurgical processing, SX, EW, and solution purification.
• Experience with pilot plant design, scale-up methodologies, process modeling, and metallurgical accounting.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering studies, process development, and metallurgical testing for receiving, handling, and leaching trucked copper concentrate.
• Design, manage, and execute pilot plant testing programs for leaching technologies, flowsheet options, and economics.
• Oversee full-scale engineering, construction, commissioning, and ramp-up of the concentrate leaching and refining facility to produce LME Grade A copper cathode.
• Optimize unit operations including receiving, leaching, SX, EW, and related separation processes.
• Develop process flow diagrams, mass/energy balances, SOPs, and operational specifications with engineering teams.
