Job summary

Hudbay Minerals is seeking a Senior Metallurgist - Leaching & SX/EW to own metallurgical design for a new Crush/Leach operation at the Cactus Mine, Casa Grande, AZ. The role leads technical oversight, test programs, and EPCM coordination to deliver LME Grade A copper cathode, while managing safety, scope, and budgets.

You will guide process optimization, commissioning, and startup, with strong emphasis on testing, modeling, and continuous improvement in hydrometallurgy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or related field.
• Minimum 7+ years of progressive metallurgical engineering experience in large-scale mining project execution, hydrometallurgical plant operations, or detailed process design.
• Minimum 3+ years in heap leach and SX/EW copper operations.
• Extensive knowledge of copper hydrometallurgy, crushing/stacking, heap leaching, SX/EW.
• Strong ability to model recovery and mass balance; proficient in reporting.

Responsibilities

• Own technical oversight for ore crushing, stacking, heap leach, SX, and EW operations.
• Lead metallurgical testwork programs and develop process flowsheets.
• Coordinate EPCM consultants and testing labs on processing scopes.
• Establish process controls and QA to meet LME Grade A standards.
• Ensure safety, design integrity, schedule, and budget across project phases.
• Lead commissioning, startup, and handover to site operations.
• Support vendor evaluations and equipment selections for plant components.
• Drive continuous improvement and technology integration in hydrometallurgy.
