Job summary

Test Metals in Aurora, Colorado, is seeking a Metallurgical Analyst to plan and conduct failure analysis investigations, prepare metallographic specimens, and operate microscopy and material testing equipment.

You will report root causes of metal failures, contribute to reports, and collaborate across teams. A bachelor's in metallurgy or materials science and at least three years in a lab or forensic setting are required; master's and PE preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy or related field.
• 3 years’ experience in laboratory or forensic setting.
• Master’s degree and PE preferred.
• Strong computer skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct failure analysis investigations including gathering metallurgical data and operating testing equipment (Microscopes, SEM, OES, XRF, Hardness Testers, etc.).
• Prepare and examine metallographic specimens for optical microscopy.
• Operate SEM for fracture assessment, EDS, etc.
• Report writing on root cause analyses for failures of metal components including fractures, corrosion, etc.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
