Job summary

O’Reilly Auto Parts is seeking a Sr Systems Engineer for the Messaging Platform to design, implement, and maintain enterprise messaging across hybrid cloud and on‑prem environments.

You will partner with architects, developers, and DevOps to standardize messaging patterns, ensure security, scalability, and cost efficiency, and drive modern integration across distributed applications. This on‑site role is located in Springfield, MO.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of enterprise messaging platform experience with Kafka or equivalent.
• Deep Kafka architecture knowledge: brokers, partitions, replication, retention, and consumers.
• Experience with schema evolution using Confluent Schema Registry or Apicurio.
• Proven ability to design and operate high-throughput, low-latency messaging workflows.
• Strong automation and IaC skills for deployment and configuration management.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support scalable messaging platforms across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.
• Build high-throughput event pipelines using Kafka, Pub/Sub, and legacy systems like IBM MQ.
• Standardize topic taxonomy, naming conventions, and lifecycle management for topics/subscriptions.
• Automate deployment/config of messaging infra with Terraform, Helm, Ansible, and Kubernetes operators.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines for configuration artifacts and topic provisioning.
• Ensure security, encryption in transit (TLS/mTLS), and access control (ACLs, RBAC).
• Implement observability dashboards and alerts (Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud/ELK).
• Collaborate with architects, developers, and DevOps for platform governance and cost efficiency.
