Our client, a leading children’s apparel retailer, is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Senior Merchandise Planner to join their high-performing fashion team. This pivotal role will focus on enhancing product strategies through effective inventory management, sales forecasting, and profit optimization. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional analytical abilities, commercial expertise, and a comprehensive understanding of the fashion industry.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$105,000-$115,000 annually.

Responsibilities Of The Senior Merchandise Planner

1. Develop seasonal financial merchandise plans aligned with corporate goals and market trends.
2. Collaborate with design, buying, and marketing teams to coordinate assortment strategies and prioritize key product categories.
3. Analyze historical sales data to establish benchmarks and guide planning decisions.
4. Generate precise sales and inventory forecasts across multiple channels, including retail, e-commerce, and wholesale.
5. Monitor sales trends and make real-time adjustments to optimize sell-through and meet customer demands.
6. Identify risks and opportunities within the merchandise portfolio and recommend actionable solutions.
7. Ensure optimal inventory levels by managing stock flow to prevent overstock or shortages.
8. Implement markdown strategies to maintain profit margins and minimize aged inventory.
9. Partner with supply chain teams to align product deliveries with sales objectives.
10. Create and present detailed performance reports for senior leadership, offering insights and strategic recommendations.
11. Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), such as gross margin, inventory turnover, and sell-through rates.
12. Leverage advanced data analytics tools to improve decision-making and accuracy in planning.
13. Mentor junior merchandise planners to promote a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
14. Act as a central liaison among cross-functional teams to ensure seamless communication and execution.
15. Participate in strategic discussions to influence product direction and drive business growth.

Qualifications Of The Senior Merchandise Planner

1. Expertise in merchandise planning systems and tools, such as SAP, JDA, or equivalent platforms.
2. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with meticulous attention to detail.
3. Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
4. Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities effectively.
5. Passion for the fashion industry and a strong grasp of market dynamics and trends.

Education Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field (MBA preferred).
2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in merchandise planning, ideally within the fashion sector.
