Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in the Washington DC metro area seeks an experienced MEP Manager to lead all mechanical, electrical and plumbing activities on commercial projects across College Park, Arlington and Herndon. You will manage the MEP team, coordinate with architects, engineers and contractors, and oversee installation and commissioning to meet safety, quality and schedule goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in ME/EE/Civil Engineering or related field.
• Professional certs (PE, PMP, LEED, CCP) are a plus.
• Experience in one or more MEP disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls, plumbing, fire protection, commissioning).
• Strong understanding of MEP design, field installation, building systems and PM principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; knowledge of MEP codes and sustainable building practices.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate MEP works across design, installation and commissioning phases.
• Liaise with architects, engineers and contractors to integrate MEP systems.
• Ensure timely completion of MEP tasks within deadlines.
• Lead and manage engineers and subcontractors.
• Delegate tasks and balance workload while meeting deadlines.
• Provide technical guidance and review MEP designs against specs and codes.
• Select materials and systems considering cost, energy efficiency and sustainability.
• Approve MEP shop drawings and coordinate changes with teams.
• Manage MEP budget and ensure activities stay within financial constraints.
• Monitor costs and allocate resources effectively.
• Ensure compliance with local codes, regs and safety standards.
• Perform site inspections and quality checks to high standards.
• Obtain necessary permits and approvals; resolve installation challenges.
• Report progress to management and stakeholders; maintain project documentation.
• Communicate with clients to understand needs and provide progress updates.
• Manage client expectations and quality/timeliness of MEP installations.
