Job summary

Cumming Group in Monterey Park, CA is seeking a Senior Estimator focused on MEP to support educational facility projects. You will lead cost estimating from drawings, perform takeoffs, and collaborate with PMO, engineers, and architects to identify value engineering opportunities.

The role requires a BS/BA in a related field, at least ten years of cost estimation experience including 5-7 years MEP, and proficiency with RS Means, Accubid, Trimble MEP, or Bluebeam Revu.

Qualifications

• Ten years of professional experience in complete cost estimates for buildings, including 5–7 years in MEP estimating.
• Expert in cost estimating theories, principles, and contract pricing.
• Knowledge of Design Build, Design Bid Build, and JOC contracting forms.
• Full knowledge of construction methods for buildings and structures.
• Understanding of current local construction labor and material costs.
• Experience developing and estimating scopes of work for change orders.
• Knowledge of Prevailing Wage/Union Labor rates preferred.
• Proficient with RS Means, Accubid, Trimble MEP, or Bluebeam Revu software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare construction cost estimates from drawings, outlines, and specifications.
• Perform material takeoffs and quantity surveys for MEP systems.
• Evaluate pricing documents, bids, change orders, and VE reports for accuracy.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and architects to identify value engineering opportunities.
• Visit sites to gather information and develop accurate estimates.
• Develop scope of work from RFIs/RFCs and estimate detailed costs.
• Compare cost estimates with contractor proposals to identify discrepancies.
• Perform basic Excel calculations as part of estimation work.
