Job summary

FTS, Inc. is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to join its MEP practice in Sterling, VA.

The role covers ground-up design/build work and renovations across an existing portfolio, with a mix of technical production and oversight of junior staff. Responsibilities include owning mechanical design from concept through construction, performing load calculations, equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and producing drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• 6+ years of MEP design experience in consulting/design-build.
• PE license or actively pursuing.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and fire suppression system design.
• Ability to read/mark up mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Clear written and client communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design on projects from concept through construction administration.
• Run load calculations, equipment sizing, and hydraulic analysis.
• Produce drawings, specifications for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
• Serve as a technical resource for design problems and cost-effective solutions.
• Review junior engineers' work, provide direction and mentorship.
• Respond to contractor questions and field issues during construction.
