FTS, Inc. is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to join its MEP practice in Sterling, VA.

The role covers ground-up design/build work and renovations across an existing portfolio, with a mix of technical production and oversight of junior staff. Responsibilities include owning mechanical design from concept through construction, performing load calculations, equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and producing drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• 6+ years of MEP design experience in consulting/design-build.
• PE license or actively pursuing.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and fire suppression system design.
• Ability to read/mark up mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Clear written and client communication skills.

A well-established engineering design firm is adding a senior mechanical engineer to its MEP practice. The role covers ground-up design/build work as well as renovation and system upgrades across an existing building portfolio, with a mix of technical production and oversight of junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design on assigned projects from concept through construction administration
• Run load calculations, equipment selection and sizing, pressure drop and hydraulic analysis
• Produce drawings, specifications, and design documentation across HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection scopes
• Serve as a technical resource on difficult design problems - evaluating options and landing on the most constructible, cost-effective solution
• Review the work of junior engineers and designers; provide direction, redlines, and mentorship
• Respond to contractor questions and field issues during construction, including written technical responses

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
• 6+ years of MEP design experience in a consulting or design-build environment
• PE license, or actively pursuing
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression system design and operation
• Comfortable reading and marking up mechanical and plumbing plan sets
• Clear communicator in writing and in front of clients
