Job summary

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) – Division of Public Health is seeking an Autopsy Technician II (S) in Raleigh. The role performs eviscerations, gross dissections, specimen collection and ensures safety and chain-of-custody while entering case data into the Medical Examiner Information System.

The position coordinates body receipt, storage, and release, supports autopsy facility operations, and provides training to Autopsy Technician I staff.

Qualifications

• Experience performing autopsy procedures with strict safety protocols.
• Proficient in maintaining chain-of-custody documentation.
• Ability to input detailed case data accurately into the ME system.

Responsibilities

• Perform eviscerations, dissections, and specimen collection during medicolegal autopsies.
• Follow OSHA and OCME safety protocols in autopsy suites.
• Coordinate body receipt, storage, transportation, and release.
• Handle evidence with chain-of-custody procedures and document accordingly.
• Collaborate with law enforcement and public health partners during investigations.
