Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh, NC, seeks an Autopsy Technician II to assist in medicolegal autopsies, perform eviscerations, dissections, specimen collection, and support law enforcement and public health investigations.

Responsibilities include maintaining safety protocols, documenting chain of custody, handling evidence, training Autopsy Technician I staff, and managing autopsy facility materials and records

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a relevant field and two years of pathology/dec[e]dent care experience or an equivalent combination.
• Experience performing eviscerations and gross dissections during medicolegal autopsies.
• Ability to maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation and handle evidence.

Responsibilities

• Perform eviscerations, dissections, specimen collection, and related procedures during medicolegal autopsies.
• Follow OSHA/OCME safety protocols in autopsy procedures and facility operations.
• Coordinate receipt, storage, transport, and release of bodies per established protocols.
• Capture autopsy photographs and perform radiographic procedures as needed.
• Enter case information into the Medical Examiner Information System and support investigations.
